Why choose Segly for GPX analysis?

Tools designed to simplify route analysis and improve ultra-trail runners' performance

📈

5 GPX segmentation modes

Import your GPX file and choose from 5 modes: key points, slope changes, slope variations, fixed distance — or place your own cut points by hand by clicking directly on the graph (mode 5).

🗺️

Interactive track map

After the analysis, view your route on an OpenStreetMap map. Hover over the track to see the elevation and cumulative distance at the exact point — ideal for locating each segment on the ground.

📊

Ultra-detailed segments

Distance, elevation gain/loss, slope, difficulty, estimated speed and elevation graph for each segment — plus progressive totals (total distance, total elevation gain, total time) shown in each card's header.

✂️

Edit your segments after analysis

Via the menu on each segment: split a segment by clicking on its graph, delete a segment (automatically merged with the adjacent one) or rename it (pass, climb, aid station…).

⏱️

Race simulation & passage times

Enter your start time to automatically calculate the estimated passage time at each segment. Lock the total duration to redistribute time between segments without exceeding your target.

🎯

Customizable analysis

Adjust speed, level and discipline (running, trail, hiking) before the analysis. Then tweak the progression factor of each segment to fine-tune time estimates.

🌤️

Real-time weather per segment

Enter your start time and Segly automatically fetches the weather forecast for the estimated passage time of each segment: conditions (sun, rain, snow, storm…), temperature, precipitation and wind with its direction. In case of headwind, intense heat, rain or snow, an automatic time adjustment is applied to the affected segment — with the detail shown (+X%). Works up to 10 days ahead.

🍌

Nutrition & hydration per segment

Enter your target intake of carbs, caffeine, sodium and water before the analysis: each segment shows the recommended amount based on its estimated duration. Sodium and water needs automatically adjust upward on the hottest segments (≥25°C).

🎒

Recommended gear per segment

Segly recommends the right gear for each segment: long sleeves, windbreaker, waterproof jacket, gloves, sunscreen or sunglasses — based on the precise forecast for that time, or, failing that, the category chosen during pre-analysis. Everything you need to pack your bag before the start.

📤

Complete export & sharing

Export the full analysis as PDF, share it via link, or from each segment's menu: individual GPX and per-segment PDF for use on a watch or during split reconnaissance.

🔒

Privacy first

Your data stays private: no mandatory signup, no intrusive ads, and you keep control over your files.

🧠

Difficulty indicators

Segly estimates the difficulty of each segment (slope, length, elevation) to help you better plan your efforts and race strategies.

📊

View, refine and share

Explore segments on the interactive map, adjust them (rename, split, delete), check passage times and export to PDF or per-segment GPX.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know to use Segly effectively

Simply drop your .gpx file onto the drop zone on the homepage, or click it to open the file picker. Segly supports any GPX file up to 10 MB. No installation required.

Segly offers 5 modes tailored to your needs:

  • Mode 1 — Split at key points along the route
  • Mode 2 — Split at slope changes
  • Mode 3 — Split at slope variations
  • Mode 4 — Split by custom distance
  • Mode 5 — Manual segmentation: load your track, then click on the graph to place your own cut points

For each segment, you get the distance, elevation gain and loss, average slope, estimated difficulty, recommended speed and the segment's elevation graph. Each card's header also shows progressive totals: total distance covered, total elevation gain and total time since the start.

Yes! Before starting the analysis, you can enter your average speed, your desired maximum duration or your level (from beginner to elite). You can also choose your discipline — running, trail or hiking — to get estimates suited to your activity.

If you enter a start time, Segly calculates the estimated time you'll reach the start of each segment, then queries the weather forecast for that location and exact time. Each segment card then shows:

  • Weather conditions (clear sky, rain, snow, storm, fog…)
  • The felt temperature and its level (cold / mild / hot)
  • Expected precipitation (in mm)
  • Wind speed and direction

Certain conditions trigger an automatic time adjustment on the segment, with the detail shown as a warning:

  • Headwind ≥ 20 km/h → penalty proportional to the frontal component (up to +10%)
  • Heat ≥ 25°C → up to +15%
  • Significant rain → up to +12%
  • Snow → +12 to +18%
  • Storm → +20%

Forecasts are available up to 10 days ahead. Beyond that, the segment's weather shows as unavailable.

Before the analysis, enter your target hourly intake of carbs and caffeine, and let Segly automatically calculate your sodium and water needs (or customize them manually). Each segment then shows the recommended amount for its duration. On segments where the forecast shows significant heat (≥25°C), the Sodium and Water cards are highlighted with an increased need.

Yes. For each segment, Segly suggests recommended gear (top, jacket, gloves, sun protection…) calculated from the temperature, wind and expected weather conditions at passage time. Without a start time or beyond the forecast window (10 days), an approximate estimate is still shown based on the weather category chosen during pre-analysis (cold / mild / hot), then automatically refined once precise forecasts are available.

Once the analysis is done, you can: download a complete PDF report, use the share by link button, or from each segment's menu export an individual PDF (segment sheet) or a standalone segment GPX file to load onto your GPS watch.

No, no signup is required to analyze your GPX tracks. You can use Segly directly, with no account and no personal data required. Creating an account does, however, let you save your analyses and access premium features.

The premium plan unlocks unlimited analyses, saving your tracks in your personal space, and access to your full history. The free tier gives you access to several no-commitment analyses to discover Segly before deciding.

You can try Segly with 5 free analyses upon signup, no credit card required. The monthly or annual subscription also includes a 10-day free trial with unlimited analyses — no charge if you cancel before the trial ends.

The Race Pass gives full access to all features for a single GPX track, with no commitment (€2 / analysis, or €5 for a pack of 3). The subscription (€5/month monthly or €29/year annually) gives unlimited access to as many tracks as you want for the whole subscription period.

Yes. All your past analyses remain viewable even without an active subscription. However, without an active subscription or Race Pass, you can't start a new analysis with premium features.

Yes! After each analysis, an OpenStreetMap map displays your GPX track. Hover over the route to see the elevation and cumulative distance at the exact point in real time — handy for locating your segments on the ground before a reconnaissance.

Yes! From each segment's menu:

  • Split — opens a graphical view of the segment where you click to place one or more cut points
  • Delete — merges the segment with the adjacent one (previous or next) and automatically recalculates the statistics

Graphs are regenerated in the background after each change.

Enter your start time in the settings before or after the analysis. Segly then automatically calculates the estimated arrival time at each segment. You can also enable the total duration lock (🔒 icon) so that speed adjustments on one segment stay within the overall time budget you set.

Yes! Click the ✏️ button next to a segment's name to give it a custom name (pass, climb, aid station…). Confirm with Enter or by clicking elsewhere, or cancel with Escape. The custom name is automatically saved with your analysis and appears in your exports.

Segly only accepts files in .gpx format, up to 10 MB. .fit, .tcx and other formats aren't supported yet. Most GPS watches and sports apps (Garmin, Strava, Komoot…) let you export your activities as .gpx.

Your GPX files are processed only in memory during the analysis and aren't permanently kept without your consent. If you choose to save a track (account required), the file is stored securely and remains accessible only to you. See our privacy policy for more details.

Segly is optimized for running, trail and hiking. Speed and difficulty calculations are calibrated to the discipline you select. Other GPX-producing activities (cycling, ski touring…) can be analyzed, but time and difficulty estimates will be less accurate.
